We rely on our volunteers to help us carry out the important work we do in bringing communities together. From the friendly faces that greet you at reception, to our enthusiastic tour guides and creative art workshop assistants – we have a role at IMA to suit everyone.

By volunteering at the IMA, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain work experience in a state-of-the-art museum

Data Entry Volunteer

Step 1 of 3 - Personal Information

Volunteers can perform more than one role. All volunteers will report to IMA’s Volunteer Coordinator and must currently hold, or be willing to apply for a volunteer Working with Children’s Card.

Gift Shop Assistant

If you are passionate about customer service and have a flair for retail, consider volunteering as a Gift Shop Assistant at IMA. You will:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to IMA visitors
  • Process cash and card payments
  • Keep the store tidy and clean
  • Manage stock, merchandise and displays
  • Implement special promotions
  • Assist with basic visitor enquiries.

Eco and Sustainability Bee

If you have a green thumb, love working outdoors and are passionate about conservation and sustainability, consider joining IMA as our Eco and Sustainability Bee. You will assist with the following:

  • Care and maintenance of the IMA herb garden and IMA grounds, working with the IMA Horticulturalist
  • Pruning, planting and weed maintenance.

Tour Guide

Are you an imaginative, enthusiastic and effective communicator? Consider volunteering as an IMA Tour Guide. You will:

  • Conduct guided tours of the museum in an approachable, inclusive manner
  • Communicate clearly and confidently to a diverse range of audiences
  • Partake in logistical tasks and basic customer service as required for the role.
  • Enhance the IMA visitor experience by providing information on the museum, its exhibitions and programs.

Art Workshop Assistant

Demonstrate your creative flair by volunteering as an Art Workshop Assistant. You will:

  • Assist with preparing materials for art workshops
  • Provide assistance to students completing art workshop activities
  • Help maintain a clean workshop area, including packing up at the conclusion of the workshop
  • Supervise students throughout the duration of the workshop.

Data Entry Volunteer

Manage our IMA databases and help us reach more visitors by helping us manage data input. Reporting to the volunteer coordinator you will:

  • Input collected data into an electronic spreadsheet or database.
  • Ensure that all data is entered correctly.
  • Review all information entered and make adjustments as needed.
  • Perform other data input tasks as required.
