Following the tragedy at Al-Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch on 15 March, we witnessed an outpouring of support from the wider community.
As the only Islamic museum in Australia we participated in Victorian Open Mosque Day on Sunday 17 March. This was planned before the tragedy occurred and held just days afterwards. The incident was catalytic in motivating people to visit not only the Museum, but local mosques.
Hundreds of guests flowed through our doors, offering condolences and warm wishes. With this businesses are asking: how can we help? Extending Jacinda Ardern’s sentiment of ‘We are one. They are us,’ we invite you to continue to take visible action and stand in solidarity with the Muslim community.
Meetings to make a Difference – an initiative to drive solidarity
We bring your attention to the Islamic Museum’s Meetings to Make a Difference initiative. This is an opportunity to bring your board, executive or council meeting to the Islamic Museum anytime in 2019, free of venue hire charges. As part of your booking we will also include one of the following:
- 45 – 60 min guided tour
- 60 min cultural awareness session led by a Museum professional
- Guided tour and cultural awareness session
Organisations can offer a voluntary donation to the IMA which will assist us in continuing the delivery of educational and cross cultural experiences.
Most importantly, in giving your team an opportunity to tour or participate in a cultural awareness session, you directly contribute to extending their knowledge of Islam and the strengthening of unity and solidarity in the community.
Commonwealth Bank, La Trobe University, Football Federation Victoria, Australian Football League and Maurice Blackburn Lawyers have already stepped up to book their Meetings to Make a Difference. We encourage you to consider the same and would appreciate your support in promoting the initiative.
