IMA was pleased to attend an event hosted by ICV as part of its ‘In Conversation’ Forum on Monday 14th August 2017. The ICV hosted international guest Dr Jemilah Mahmood, the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies who gave a keynote address on the importance of youth engagement.

Dr. Mahmood shared her own personal reflections in shifting her career from being an obstetrician and gynaecologist, to serving as head of the humanitarian branch of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in New York City and later being appointed as head of the humanitarian branch of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in New York City.

Dr. Mahmood stressed how the key to solving many of the crises prevalent in the world today lies with the next generation, that hold the potential to negotiate and rework issues through a more considered lens.

The event was hosted by ICV in partnership with the Australian Red Cross and Deakin Uni (ADI for Citizenship and Globalisation) with the theme ‘Youth and Civic Engagement – The role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent’ and was held at Deakin Downtown University, Collins Square, Docklands.

Islamic Museum of Australia is a proud member society of the Islamic Council and regularly engages with and attends events hosted by various community organisations, such as this, in the spirit and commitment towards achieving our shared vision of community cohesion and harmony, as well as inspiring generations of young Australians to come.
