Step into a wonderful world of ceramics in our Pretty Porcelain plate painting workshop. Be inspired by gorgeous patterns and designs spanning centuries across the Islamic world.
Islamic ceramics have a long and rich history, with designs dating back to the 8th century CE. The intricate patterns and motifs used in Islamic ceramics, such as floral designs and geometric shapes, have influenced schools of visual art around the world. Discover examples of Islamic ceramics and design in our dedicated Islamic Art Gallery.
During this workshop, you will paint your own porcelain plate with designs inspired by places like Persia, Arabia and Ottoman Turkey. You will have the opportunity to use a variety of colours to enhance the design, like the iconic blue shades in Abbasid pottery, or earthy tones found in Persian Mina'i wares. You can even mix and match colours to make a modern design.
Our facilitator will support you through the process of designing and painting your plate, providing you with all the materials and tools you need to create a stunning piece of art.
At the end of the workshop, you will have a one-of-a-kind porcelain plate that you can display in your home or gift to a friend or loved one. You will also have gained a greater understanding of the cultural significance and beauty of Islamic ceramics.
This workshop is open to youth aged 12+ of all backgrounds and skill levels.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn new skills, meet new friends, and create a beautiful piece of art inspired by the traditions of Islamic art and design. Register now, and let's paint some porcelain plates together!
