Internationally acclaimed multimedia artist, Narjis Mirza, presents Light Reflections in Kufic Calligraphy. Join the artist behind our current exhibition Hayakal al Noor, Bodies of Light in this intimate creative experience combining an artist talk and Kufic calligraphy workshop. Narjis will personally tour you through Hayakal al Noor, Bodies of Light, offering her own reflections about her work inside the exhibition space. You will explore different modes of participation and interaction with the light and textile forest of the installation. In the second half of the workshop, you will learn how to write your name and create a projection template in Kufic calligraphy; a geometric style of writing. BYO torch, or mobile phone equipped with a torch feature, is required for this workshop. After the workshop, why not venture into our Galleries and explore other variations of Islamic calligraphy? The monochrome interior of our minaret in our Islamic Architecture Gallery is a must-see! Hayakal al Noor, Bodies of Light is on at the Islamic Museum of Australia until 9 July 2022. About the Facilitator Black and white photo of Narjis Mirza speaking at an event Narjis Mirza is a multimedia installation artist. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand, Iran, Turkey and Pakistan. Narjis recently completed her practice-led doctoral research into the transcendent and imaginal realm of Islamic philosophy through spatial and participatory installation art projects. Narjis explores new media technologies, animation, projection, typography and voice as mediums with metaphysical resonance that have the potential to evoke the unseen, in a visible image. She aspires to expand a philosophical dialogue on the realm of reality through concept films and interactive light installations.
