Join us in our Doll Making: Kemal the Camel workshop, as we embark on a creative journey that celebrates the contributions of Afghan cameleers to Australia.
During this fun workshop, you'll learn about the fascinating roles these skilled camel handlers played in shaping modern Australia.
Afghan cameleers were integral to Australia's exploration and transportation during the 19th and early 20th centuries. They skillfully navigated harsh terrains and braved the outback with their loyal camels. The cameleers also played an essential role in the construction of railroads, electricity networks, and transportation of goods across vast distances.
In this workshop, you'll have the opportunity to sew and stuff your very own camel doll inspired by Kemal the Camel in our Australian Muslim History Gallery; a nod to the Afghan cameleers' remarkable journey in Australia. Our instructor will guide you through the process, providing insights into the cultural significance of camels and their enduring impact on Australian history.
By participating in our Doll Making: Kemal the Camel workshop, you'll not only craft a beautiful keepsake, but also gain a deeper appreciation for the untold stories and contributions of Afghan cameleers to Australia's cultural heritage.
