Overview

The IMA Patron’s Fund (the Fund) for the advancement of all Australian who support Muslims is designed to support the academic or creative pursuits of Australians looking to further their knowledge in a field of study or creative practice that will contribute to the Islamic Museum of Australia’s mission:

The Islamic Museum of Australia provides educational and cross-cultural experiences and showcase the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and in Islamic societies abroad. It aims to foster community harmony and facilitate an understanding of the values and contributions of Muslims to Australian society.

Funds are available for individual grants of up to $10,000 per year, per person.

Eligibility

The grants are available to:

  • Any artist or contributor to the Museum and their immediate family;
  • Any of the staff of the Museum and their immediate family; and
  • Any of the volunteers of the Museum and their immediate family.

Prospective applicants who meet one of the eligibility requirements must also demonstrate that they meet one of the following criteria.

  1. That they need the funds to undertake the activity (determined by means test, where applicant’s combined household income cannot exceed two times the national average).

or;

  1. They must show their study or education will contribute, or that the individual has already contributed to the IMA and its mission (including but not limited to: contributing to the advancement of Australian Muslims, contributing to sharing culture through art or other means with the wider community).

 

Application Process

There is no closing date for applications. Applications can be made for study or activity during the current financial year, or the following year.  While there is no closing date, the selection panel will convene on a quarterly basis only. The Fund will continue to accept the receipt of applications until funds for the relevant financial year are exhausted.

Applicants must complete the application form on the IMA’s website.  The application must be completed in full including the submission of any supporting documents. Neither the Grant Officer or Selection Panel will make enquiries with the applicant to clarify content within the application.

 

Selection

Following eligibility, selection will be by merit of written application, as assessed by a selection panel consisting of the IMA Founder, Patron and Chairperson.

The IMA will make all reasonable effort to maintain contact with recipients over an extended period, beyond the year of grant receipt, and offer support as it deems necessary.

Terms and Conditions
  1. Eligibility

1.1       The grants are available to:

  1. a) Artists or individuals who have contributed to the Museum since its inception and their immediate family.
  2. b) Current staff of the Museum and their immediate family.
  3. c) Prior staff employed by the Museum for a continuous period of no less than 12 months since the Museum’s inception, and their immediate family.
  4. d) Current volunteers of the Museum, who have served over a minimum period of 12 months and their immediate family.
  5. e) Prior volunteers and their immediate family, who served a minimum single day per fortnight over a 12-month period.

3.2       The Selection Panel’s decision is final.

3.3       Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to seek specific feedback regarding their application.

  1. Reporting & Activity impact

4.1       The successful applicant may be required to provide regular or a final report to the IMA at the conclusion of their activity.

4.2       The terms of the individual contract for successful applicants may include specific reporting or duties that relate to the applicant’s activity e.g. commit to the delivery of public lecture regarding field of study or offer art workshop at the Museum relating to the field of study.

  1. Deferment

5.1       Should circumstances change prior to the deposit of funds, an applicant’s request for the deferment of funds will be considered at the discretion of the Selection Panel.

  1. Repayment of Funds

6.1       Should the nominated activity not occur during the contracted period, the IMA may request partial or full repayment of funds

  1. Providing false or misleading information

7.1       The offer of an award is based on the information provided to the Museum. An award may be withdrawn at any stage if incorrect, false or misleading information is provided or relevant information is withheld.

  1. Taxation and Centrelink

8.1       It is the grantees responsibility to seek advice regarding taxation and Centrelink advice regarding their individual circumstances. Scholarships and grants may be considered as taxable income.

  1. Publicity

9.1       Successful applicants may be required to be photographed or interviewed for publicity purposes. The Museum may choose to publish the names and activity detail of successful applicants across any/all of its owned channels or provide these details to third parties for the purpose of publicity.
